We brew this beer in celebration of our outpost on Governors Island. What's Governors Island, you ask? It's a lovely little urban oasis just a ferry ride over from Manhattan, an extraordinary public open space and home to other educational, recreational, not-for-profit, and commercial facilities. It's also home to our converted shipping container bar, where we sling beers and burgers (by our friends The Meat Hook, of course) on weekends throughout summer.
This year's version of Public Property is an IPA hopped with 100% public (vs. proprietary) and purposefully-sourced hop varieties. Public hop varieties are ones that anyone can grow without yield limits. Some of our favorites include Cascade, Chinook, Comet and Cashmere... which, as you may have guessed, are all featured in this batch. The Chinook we used is really unique and sourced from a great farm in Michigan, while the remaining three varieties come from Crosby Hop Farm in Oregon.
